Leading the way to bottom line improvements

The Automotive Academy Team Leader Programme has been developed to equip existing team and cell leaders with the techniques to improve Quality, Cost and Delivery performance. The key objectives of the programme are:

  • To provide candidates with globally competitive tools and techniques in respect of the management, supervision and operating practices within a manufacturing environment
  • To enable candidates to transfer their learning to the work environment, making measurable improvements to the bottom line
  • To encourage a philosophy of continuous learning

Created in close consultation with manufacturers and their suppliers, the programme covers both theoretical knowledge and its practical application. Course completion together with proof of successful vocational application will earn the learner an Automotive Academy Team Leader award, incorporating NVQ level 3 in Business Improvement Techniques.

The programme comprises four phases undertaken over a 6-12 month period between which candidates are expected to complete a QCD project within their employment area.

The phases are:

Phase I - Introduction to Workshop Management

  • Unit 1 - Introduction to Standardised Work
  • Unit 2 - Workplace Organisation
  • Unit 3 - Health, Safety & Environment
  • Unit 4 - Continuous Process Improvement

3 Days (Non-residential)

 

Phase II - Continous Process Improvement Techniques

  • Unit 1 - Visual Management Systems
  • Unit 2 - Identification & Elimination of Waste
  • Unit 3 - Set-up Improvement
  • Unit 4 - Problem Solving
  • Unit 5 - Total Productive Maintenance
  • Unit 6 - Project Management
3 Days (Non-residential)

 

Phase III - Workshop Management Practical Activity

  • Unit 1 - Application of Standardised Work & Line Balance
  • Unit 2 - Data & Problem Analysis
  • Unit 3 - Multi-Model Line Balance
  • Unit 4 - Motion Economy
4 Days (Residential)

 

Phase IV - Team Working and Leadership Skills

  • Unit 1 - Effective team Working
  • Unit 2 - Introduction to Team Leadership
  • Unit 3 - Communication Skills
  • Unit 4 - Inter-Personal Skills
5 Days (Residential)
