History

Skills4Auto was launched on 23 October 2003 at a special event at Jaguar’s Castle Bromwich Visitor Centre. It traces its roots back to the original Rover Task Force that was set up at the end of the 1990s which then developed into the Automotive Skills Task Force with representatives from vehicle manufacturers, tier 1 suppliers, the Learning and Skills Councils, Business Link, Accelerate and the Government Office in the West Midlands.

The Birmingham and Solihull LSC was a keen advocate of the idea of a “one-stop broker” capable of pulling all the training needs of the Midlands automotive industry together under one body. So with financial support from Advantage West Midlands (the local Regional Development Agency), the Task Force was restructured to become Skills4Auto.

Learning and Skills Council, Advantage West Midlands and The European Union Social Fund
